Customer Testimonials

“Autotether is great! I fish a lot on the lakes in northern Maine, (Rangeley Lakes region), and the weather, and water can get pretty rough real fast. I never used the old umbilical lanyard as it was too inconvenient, and you can’t move around while fishing. I also put one on my dog. Don’t go on a boat without one!! Thanks Autotether.”

Miami Boat Show Testimonial

At the Miami Boat Show, a customer told us their Autotether story: “Several months ago he was at a gas dock getting fuel and his son was in the back of the boat and 4-year-old daughter was in the passenger seat next to the helm. He had started the motor and jumped off the boat onto the dock to untie the lines. Just as he untied the boat his daughter pushed the throttle about 3/4 forward and the boat started to take off. He immediately pushed the panic button on his Autotether sensor to shut down the motor which averted a major accident.” He told us “every boat should have one, and thank god I had one“.

“As a happy Autotether user for the past three years (and a solo boater 75% of the time I’m out on the water), I was saddened to read this story which involved one of my wife’s coworkers. The fact that the boat was found beached with the engine running probably indicates that he fell off the boat (I also wear an inflatable PFD in addition to using my Autotether). Thanks for making such a great product (and for taking good care of me when I had a problem with my three year old Autotether which you fixed promptly for me).”

“I bought the Autotether system at this year’s Hartford Boat Show and really enjoy the product. Tuesday evening the Operator FOB fell out of my pocket into the drink while my boat was in the slip here in CT. It took several hours until the tide was low enough to allow me to retrieve the FOB. The good news is it worked as advertised, killed the engine and continued sounding the alarm until I turned the receiver unit off. “

“I was 23 miles out of Port Everglades working a massive weedline in 2-4ft seas I lean over to adjust the port haylard on the outrigger & end up going over. The engines dies in a few feet then starboard rigger clip goes, now I’m in the water trying to get back into the boat & reel in the fish. I end up getting in & getting this guy.”

Harbor Master Groton Long Point, CT

“As Harbor Master of Groton Long Point, I spend a considerable amount of time alone on my boat, which is a 23′ Grady White walk around. I have been using Autotether on my boat for the past year, and it gives me a strong sense of security knowing that even when I am not at the helm, I am still connected to the lanyard and my motor will shut down if I were to fall overboard. My wife also used to worry when I was alone but because I have installed the Autotether, she is less fearful. The Autotether is easy to use and install, inexpensive, and I highly recommend it to all Harbor Masters.”

“I recently purchased an Autotether from a private individual and was very happy with the purchase, however, there was one problem it had the wrong clip. I called Autotether to see if they could help get one that would work with my Yamaha and was surprised by the response. Remember I did not buy it from either the factory or a dealer but a private individual. I had a very short turnaround time since I was heading to Mexico in a few days and wanted the unit working before I left. I talked to Joe Perez and Andrea Frickman concerning my dilemma. To say they were helpful would be a gross understatement. They not only got the clip and the tools to change it to me before my departure but would take no money whatsoever. Joe even went into detail on how to not only change the clip but gave me a tutorial on how to operate the unit itself. Needless to say the Autotether not only worked as described but is so easy to set up and use that I believe anyone, regardless of how helpless, could accomplish the task with no problem whatsoever. Other fishermen that I encountered were so impressed that they to intend to purchase one upon their return to the States. I live in Nevada and a recent law requires the use of some form of active tether device when the boat is running. As everyone knows this can be a major pain while fishing. Well the Autotether not only solves this safety issue and definitely makes fishing that much easier.”

“I often fish alone in a 17 foot inflatable. And I’m often in places where there are few other boats, the water is cold and rough (central coast of B.C. where we’re headed now) and I’m trolling. Under those conditions I have to be constantly aware of the risk of falling overboard. So I always wear a life jacket with a waterproof hand held VHF in the pocket. And I never unhook the tether to the kill switch. With your autotether I’ll be able to enjoy the safety I need with the pleasure of not having that chord hanging up on everything….. Which it does often. Of course, it always seems to happen when I get a fish on…Nothing like trying to play a fish while at the same time trying to untangle the kill switch chord which has somehow gotten wrapped around the butt of your rod!!! Anyway, you get the picture. No doubt you’ve heard these kinds of stories many times…”

“Autotether is an innovative and outstanding marine safety product that provides my on-the-water family peace of mind and mobility. We can easily use the device on any outboard powered boat or personal watercraft we operate. Everything is provided for quick installation so we can focus on the fun!”

Sgt. Dwayne Somers

“I want to let you know that I am very impressed with this product as we have utilized this system on our most utilized patrol vessels, and this system has not failed once. I strongly recommend this system for Law enforcement Marine Patrol as this is a huge officer safety product. I can strongly attest to this as I had two of my deputies ejected from a patrol vessel, and this vessel circled (circle of death) above them at a high speed.”

“I do a lot of high-speed trolling for wahoo out of Ft. Pierce Inlet. I’m usually by myself and I spend a lot of time along the gunwales, adjusting drags, clearing weed from lures and keeping a fish from tangling lines. It’s tremendously reassuring to know that if the worst happens and I go overboard my AutoTether won’t let the boat go flying off at 15 knots dragging some big lures and big hooks over me. Certainly my wife takes comfort in knowing the boat won’t wind up in the Bahamas with no one aboard!”

Paul Hoofe

IGFA World Record Holder For #6 Line Class

“I spent the majority of my life fishing on the water solo. I enjoy fishing on my boat by myself a lot of the time, just to get away from the crazy lifestyle that we all live. When I first found out about the Autotether – I thought it was a great idea to help reduce the possibility of falling overboard and having the boat continue on with me in the water. I use the Autotether while fishing day or night – I love to fish light tackle and chase club records or world records. Knowing that the boat kill switch will be activated if you fall overboard is a comforting feeling considering what the consequence could be. It is a great product!”

Robert Hannan, MD

“Use mine religiously I frequently have my small kids with me and no other adult and we all wear life jackets and use the Autotether.”

Tony Soltys

President of Raincountry Flyfishers, Juneau, AK

“The Autotether is a wonderful hi-tech safety device for flyfishers. Although cordless and small it provides full kill-switch protection. Gives safety without encumbering the actions our wonderful sport demands.”

Lawrence Gunther Euteneier

Captain Blind Fishing Boat Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

“As a person without sight, I’m always thinking of ways to minimize risk and maximize my opportunities to enjoy the out-of-doors. My development of the world’s first fishing boat for the blind has resulted in an interesting blend of technology and innovative problem solving, and has been made possible with the generous support of a number of sponsors. When I first learned of the Autotether technology I knew right away this was a safety device I couldn’t be without, and when the good folks at Autotether agreed to support my initiative, I was pleased to say the least. The Autotether technology not only provides an element of safety to the rest of my passengers, but gives me the assurance that my co-pilot is in the boat with me at all times. The alert buttons on the sensors further enhance safety by allowing anyone to sound an alert and to stop the engine. Please visit my website at www.blindfishingboat.com to learn more about my blind boat research or to discover the many ways fishers without sight are enjoying the sport of fishing and boating.”
